![]() 74/100Ħ0% EmulatedBloodlines is a strange edition to the Castlevania timeline not only does it take place throughout Europe during World War I, but the two playable descendants of the Belmont family have been loosely tied into the original Dracula novel by Bram Stoker. I'm guessing they decided to do that because Genesis games had their origin in arcade ports and many of them, even Sonic, had a limited continues system. It's also fairly hard due to limited continues, which I think is a horrible idea for castlevania. It's respectable but nowhere near my favorite in the series. THat being said, the game runs smoothly most of the time, and the level design is pretty good. The semi-boss rush at the end is not a castlevania style mechanic and I would have rather had a more interesting fight with death than pad out the battle with other bosses. His best whip and best sub-weapon have convoluted mechanics and I wasn't able to quite figure them out other than realizing that getting hit while wielding either causes you to lose them. He can whip in multiple directions, but only sometimes. Jonathan Morris has some unique gameplay quirks that don't appear in other games. 2 Players: John Morris (whip) / Eric Lecarde (javelin) - 6 stages - Playing time 3 hours if you don't know the pattern, second run for me in less than 2 hours - Despite the short playing time, a lot of bosses (17), almost all of them are good - Much more agile in terms of gameplay than its predecessors - reminds me of the old parts most of Symphony of the Night - first Castlevania title with Michiru Yamane composing the musicħ0% PCIt's a competent castlevania but it just doesn't feel quite as good to play as others in the series. In terms of old school Castlevania, I think it's definitely one of the best parts. Otherwise an absolute top game, I claim if it had been released on the SNES the game would have enjoyed a much higher "reputation" in retrospect. It would be preferable to concentrate the franchise in/around a castle. It is also questionable whether the locations should have been distributed across Europe. The only downside is the short playing time: The only 6 stages can be completed in less than 2 hours on the second run. In addition, especially towards the end, it's also difficult again, so nothing is missing. I also think the enemy design and the boss fights are more successful than in part IV. more successful/balanced that you can only whip diagonally in the jump, that was maybe a bit too much in part IV and in a certain respect OP. The level design is also convincing for me. In addition, great varied platforming as well as successful combat. Everything is significantly more agile and no longer seems so retracted and stiff. As far as the pure gameplay is concerned, for me it is even significantly better than the 4 previous main parts of the franchise. 90% Xbox OneI'm positively surprised by the title.
